Cataract & Vision Lost

Are you over the age of 40? If so, did you know that cataracts are the most common cost of vision lost once you’ve hit the 40 year mark? Make sure that you are aware of the signs and symptoms of this condition!
Cataracts happen when the proteins that make up a portion of the eye’s lenses clump together. This causes a cloudiness in the lenses which can make it difficult to see clearly and can lead to blindness. There are several things that can increase the likelihood of you getting cataracts like:
Diabetes
Heavy Alcohol Consumption
Smoking
UV Radiation
Hypertension
Family History
If you start experiencing some of the common symptoms of cataracts and live in Peoria, Illinois, make sure that you contact Bixby Eye Center to see if you have cataracts. Some of the symptoms to keep an eye out on include:
Blurred or dim vision
Increasing difficulty to see at night
Yellowing of colors
Seeing halos are around lights
Frequent changes of glasses or contact prescription
Double vision in one eye
You can prevent cataracts from happening too! The easiest thing to do is have a healthy lifestyle. Eat veggies and protect your eyes in the sun.
